'The Party: A Virtual Experience of Austism'

Friends Electric's No Ghost have collaborated with directors Anrick Bregman and Shehani Fernando for The Guardian to present 'The Party: A Virtual Experience of Austim'

'The Party' gives a POV insight into the trauma that Layla, a young person with autism, can feel in stressful situations. The 360° short film puts the viewer in the place of Layla, as her family busily make preparations for her mothers surprise birthday party. We hear Layla's internal dialogue trying to process the erratic sounds, lights and bustling around her that eventually leads to a meltdown (an intense response to an overwhelming situation). The viewer is paralysed in Layla's sensory overload; faces no longer clear and sounds muffled and indistinguishable.

Autism affects more than 1 in 100 people in the UK, and compared with males, females on the autistic spectrum are statistically less likely to be properly diagnosed.
